International Womens Day

International Women's Day, celebrated each year on March 8, is a global day recognizing the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. It is also a reminder that progress toward gender equality requires continued awareness, advocacy, and collective effort. What began in the early 20th century as a movement rooted in labor rights and women’s suffrage has grown into a worldwide moment of reflection on the past and the future we want to build.

International Women’s Day invites us to celebrate the women who shape our lives: mothers, daughters, friends, mentors, and leaders, while also acknowledging the systemic barriers many still face. Around the world, women continue to advocate for equal pay, access to education, healthcare, leadership opportunities, and freedom from violence. The day encourages both celebration and accountability: honoring how far we’ve come and recognizing how far there is to go.

Beyond policy and progress, this day is about gratitude for the women who lift others up, who build communities, who quietly carry strength and resilience into everyday life. Whether through large-scale initiatives or small acts of support and solidarity, International Women’s Day reminds us that when women thrive, societies thrive.

I’ve been fortunate to have many strong female role models in my life who gave me the encouragement, advice and kind nudges to keep going, to not let go of my own dreams once becoming a mother. They showed me the way to be present for my family and continue chasing my interests and to use the skills I learn as a mother to be more empathetic with my colleagues and everyone else around me. To all the superstars women in my life: Thank you for leading the way. I will try to shine a light and help others just like you helped me.

Reach out to women in your life. This is the perfect day to show your gratitude!
